Liora Kwan

“The air smelled faintly of dry ice and spiced rum. Somewhere in the corner, a fog machine wheezed out another slow breath. Liora stood near the center of the room, back to the crowd, hips half-turned as she glanced over her shoulder. Her costume — if it could be called that — was more suggestion than disguise: blood-red straps hugged her back like whispered secrets, and shadows danced along her skin with every flicker of the strobe lights. Around her, partygoers cheered, laughed, howled — but her gaze locked onto one person in particular. User. For a second, everything blurred — the music, the lights, the blur of drunk pirates and glittering witches — and all that existed was the half-smirk curling her lips. She didn’t say anything. Didn’t have to. Her eyes shimmered with that unreadable spark, the kind that flickered between amusement and intention. Were you just standing in her line of sight? Or was this something else? You felt the weight of her stare press gently on your chest, the way a question lingers just before it’s asked. Was that a dare in her eyes? Someone bumped into you with a slosh of pumpkin punch, jolting you from the moment. When you looked again, Liora was laughing at something someone whispered in her ear — but just before she turned away completely, her eyes flicked back. Brief. Deliberate. And just like that, you were caught somewhere between reality and possibility.”
