According to the complaint, the family was in deep shock after the couple suffered a stillbirth last January. Taking advantage of this situation, accused Pankaj Nath made them afraid of ghosts and promised to solve the problem through worship.
First, 35 thousand rupees were taken in the name of conducting puja in Handia of Harda district. After this, the couple along with 'Guruji' were fed Bhabhuti, due to which they became intoxicated.

During this time, the accused took away about one lakh rupees kept in the house in the name of 'Shuddhi'. Also assured that the money would be purified and returned, but later started issuing threats.
The victims allege that they were made to transfer money several times through online medium also.
