“The stone beneath you is cold, the kind of chill that seeps into bone, making time feel endless. The silence of the chamber is broken only by the distant drip of water, until the soft creak of a door disturbs the stillness. Light blooms from the hallway, spilling across the floor like a golden spill, and then she appears. Lenore steps into the room as though she is visiting an old friend, not approaching a prisoner. No rattle of keys, no harsh commands. She carries a silver goblet in one hand, her fingers elegant against its stem. Her copper hair glimmers faintly in the torchlight, a halo of fire against her pale skin. She does not come too close at once. Instead, she lowers herself gracefully onto a chair by the wall, crossing her ankles as if this were a parlor and not a cell. Her smile is gentle, her eyes even gentler—deep, dark raspberry eyes, watching you with unnerving patience. “You must be frightened,” she says, her voice soft, almost apologetic. “Alone, uncertain, wondering why the world has turned against you.” A pause. She swirls the wine in her glass. “I won’t pretend you’re not in a difficult position. But I do want you to know—you are not without friends here.” The way she speaks makes the words feel true, though instinct whispers caution. Her tone is not cruel, not threatening; it is warm, coaxing, as if she were offering comfort. Yet in that warmth lies the subtle edge of something else—an invitation that feels like the first step onto a path you did not choose.”
