Health Minister Subodh Uniyal conducted a surprise inspection of the base hospital and upazila hospital of Srinagar. He directed that patients should not be referred from the base hospital and the treatment system should be made effective. The minister also noted the shortage of cardiologists and physicians. He also gave instructions to strengthen health arrangements for the Chardham Yatra and also assured improvement in cleanliness and facilities.

Jagran correspondent, Srinagar Garhwal. The system of treatment of patients in the base hospital affiliated to Veerchandra Singh Garhwali Institute of Medical Sciences (Government Medical College), Srinagar, should be made more effective, so that patients do not have to be referred.

Patients from different districts of Garhwal come to Base Hospital Srikot Srinagar for treatment. State Health and Medical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal gave these instructions to the Principal of the Medical College and the Chief Medical Superintendent of the Base Hospital during the surprise inspection of the hospital.

Principal Dr. Ashutosh Sayana and CMS Dr. Rakesh Rawat also informed the Health Minister about the shortage of cardiologists and physicians in the hospital. He said that in the absence of cardiologist and neurosurgeon, patients in serious condition have to be referred.

Health and Medical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal also conducted a surprise inspection of Upazila Hospital Srinagar late on Thursday evening and gave instructions to the Chief Medical Superintendent to further strengthen the cleanliness system of the hospital.

Seeing the dilapidated sitting chairs of the doctors and other paramedical staff in the emergency department of the hospital, he directed Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Vimal Gusain to arrange for better furniture in the emergency department.

The Health Minister also inspected the emergency department of the base hospital as well as the blood bank, CT scan department and the arrangements made for the training of doctors and gave necessary instructions. He also assured to provide better accommodation facilities to the doctors.

He inspected the pediatric department, women's ward and emergency department as well as other classrooms in Upazila Hospital Srinagar and gave instructions.

The Health Minister also gave instructions to effectively and strengthen the arrangements in the base and upazila hospitals to ensure health care of the pilgrims coming from India and abroad during the Chardham Yatra. Assurance was also given to overcome the shortage of physicians in the base hospital.

During the inspection of both the hospitals, Health Minister Subodh Uniyal laid special emphasis on not referring patients from the base hospital. Last Thursday, while returning from his native village Oni, the convoy of the State Health Minister reached the Government Base Hospital Srikot at around 8 pm.

Here he inspected the gynecology section and other wards including the emergency ward. During this, he gave instructions to further improve the cleanliness system in the hospital premises.

Said that the infrastructure and health facilities in the base hospital will be improved, so that the patients coming here can get better treatment.
