Strict Steps To Improve Yamuna Water Quality, Instructions For STP Sampling And Drain Mapping In Gurugram

A review meeting was held in Gurugram under the chairmanship of Haryana Pollution Control Board Member Secretary Yogesh Kumar regarding Yamuna pollution control. In this, instructions were given for re-sampling of STP, diversion of untreated water and mapping of pollution points of leg-two drain. Jagran correspondent, Gurugram. A meeting to review the progress of various projects under the Yamuna Action Plan to protect Yamuna from pollution was held on Friday. In this meeting held at Vikas Sadan under the chairmanship of Yogesh Kumar, Member Secretary, Haryana Pollution Control Board, action taken report has been sought from the officials of various departments of Gurugram.

Member Secretary Yogesh Kumar said that joint sampling of all STPs should be done again and a detailed report should be submitted within 15 days. He also directed that diversion of untreated water from Leg-3 to Leg-2 should be ensured within 15 days, so that the treated water can be used for purposes like irrigation.

In the meeting, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) was directed to prepare standard operating procedure (SOP) for cleaning of storm water drains and sewerage lines. Under this, special emphasis was laid on identifying and removing illegal connections, so that the sources of pollution can be controlled.

Instructions were given in the meeting that all the pollution points in the leg two area should be identified and their mapping should be completed within three months. Through this process, sources of pollution can be identified and strategies for their effective control can be prepared.

Strictness on solid waste management and illegal tankers

Instructions were given to ensure scientific disposal of solid waste coming out of drains and to keep complete records of it. Along with this, Municipal Corporation Gurugram was asked to submit report of newly registered tankers and constitute a special team to take strict action against illegal tanker operations.

Report sought on fencing work

GMDA officials were directed to submit the status report of the fencing work being done along the drains, so that incidents of illegal entry and dumping of garbage can be stopped. Emphasis was also laid on ensuring regular inspection of all STPs and maintaining their operations as per the prescribed standards.

Yamuna water quality is improving

Officials informed in the meeting that due to taping of drains, installation of STP and CETP, effective waste management and strong monitoring system, positive progress is being made in improving the quality of Yamuna water. The Member Secretary directed that all the work should be completed with quality and within the stipulated time frame, so that the goals of pollution control can be effectively achieved.

Sahni, Exen Irrigation Department Gurugram Jitendra Singh and other officers were present.
