Security Cordon Will Be Installed On Chunar Ganga Bridge Becoming Suicide Point, Rs 90.86 Lakh Approved For Mesh
The government has approved the demand for installing safety net on Chunar Ganga bridge to curb the incidents of suicide. Financial approval of Rs 90.86 lakh has been granted on the initiative of MLA Anurag Singh. The bridge wing of the Public Works Department will do this work. There have been several suicides on the bridge since traffic began, making it a 'suicide point'. This step will ensure public safety.

Jagran correspondent Chunar (Mirzapur). The government has approved the long standing demand to curb incidents of jumping into the Ganga from the Chunar Ganga bridge. On the initiative of MLA Anurag Singh, financial approval of Rs 90.86 lakh has been given for installing iron safety net on the bridge. This work will be done through the bridge wing of the Public Works Department and for this a letter has been issued by the Principal Secretary, Public Works Department.
Since the commencement of traffic on the bridge in the year 2018, many incidents of suicide by jumping into the Ganga have come to light, due to which there is an atmosphere of anxiety in the area. Local citizens and social organizations had continuously raised the demand for installing safety net on the bridge. People said that due to the high height of the bridge, it is becoming a sensitive place and without security arrangements, there is a possibility of such incidents.
In some cases, incidents of dead bodies being thrown into the Ganga after committing criminal incidents like murder in the surrounding districts also came to light, due to which the need to strengthen security arrangements was felt. MLA Anurag Singh said that this bridge of Chunar was becoming more popular as a suicide point instead of a selfie point, which had become a matter of concern. For this, continuous efforts were being made for the last two years. Now after getting the financial approval, the construction work will be started soon as soon as the departmental process is completed.
