State Bureau, New Delhi. The Delhi Assembly on Friday issued a warning to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on the basis of the report submitted by Privileges Committee Chairman Padumna Rajput for not appearing when called twice in connection with the hanging-house case.

There was a debate on the motion brought by BJP MLA Jitendra Mahajan in the House on this matter. Mahajan considered non-appearance before the committee as contempt and recommended issuing a warning to Kejriwal and other AAP leaders. BJP MLA Rajkumar Bhatia supported the motion and it was eventually passed in the House through voice vote.

Kejriwal had inaugurated the hanging house in the Assembly on August 9, 2022 in the presence of the then Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal and Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla. This issue was raised in the Assembly after the BJP government was formed in Delhi in February last year. After this the matter was sent to the Privileges Committee for investigation.

The committee summoned Kejriwal and other AAP leaders for an explanation, but they initially committed contempt by not appearing. However, earlier this month, other AAP leaders including Kejriwal, Goyal and Birla appeared before the committee.

Assembly Speaker Gupta said that under the rules, the committee has the power to impose jail sentence for contempt, but taking appropriate action, the committee has limited the punishment to only a warning.

The House accepted the suggestions of the Public Accounts Committee

The House has accepted the findings of three reports presented by the Public Accounts Committee of the Delhi Assembly. These include the findings of the CAG report related to the excise policy case scam, health department and pollution. These three reports of the AAP government were presented in the House in the last assembly session. After which the House had sent these reports to the Public Accounts Committee for final investigation to give its findings.

Public Accounts Committee Chairman Ajay Mahawar said that the committee has given its suggestions in all three cases so that such incidents do not happen in future. The committee has also given its findings to the House for action on previous scams. Which has been accepted in the House. Now further action will be decided by the House. He told that there are many serious allegations against the former Deputy Chief Minister in the excise case.

All six CAG reports presented in the Delhi Assembly have been sent to the Public Accounts Committee for investigation. These also include other reports including that of the Water Board. The committee will investigate and submit its report.
