Investigation Into The Dark Exploits Of Impostor Baba Ashok Kharat Intensified, SIT Received More Than 50 Complaints

The SIT probing the alleged crimes of impostor Baba Ashok Kharat has received more than 50 complaints in the last five days. The team formed by the Maharashtra government had released the numbers to share information with citizens.

Digital Desk, New Delhi. The Special Investigation Team probing the dark exploits of rape accused impostor Baba Ashok Kharat has received more than 50 calls in the last five days, giving information about the crimes allegedly committed by him.

Officials said the SIT appointed by the Maharashtra government had issued two mobile numbers for citizens to share information about Kharat. Police have so far registered eight FIRs against Nashik resident Kharat following multiple complaints related to allegations of sexual harassment, extortion and circulating objectionable material.

Over the years, many political leaders have been coming to meet Kharat, the head of a temple trust in Sinnar in Nashik district. He was arrested on March 18 after a woman accused him of rape. A senior officer said that since the release of the two mobile numbers, the investigation team has been receiving an average of 15 to 20 phone calls every day. He said more than 50 of the calls received in the last five days were related to complaints against Kharat. The team is verifying the complaints.

He said that the SIT has assured to keep the identity of the informers or those reporting the crime completely confidential. The SIT visited Kharat's office in Nashik along with the forensic team on Friday.

A police team recovered several documents, files, a diary and papers from the office, an official said. Meanwhile, the Nashik district administration has suspended Kharat's weapon license, saying there are several cases registered against him. He told that Kharat, a resident of Mirgaon, Sinnar, had obtained the license of the revolver on October 15, 2012.
