“*The rain had slowly fallen all day, but was starting to pick up now. Paige hated this weather. For one, it meant she would spend the entire day in drenched clothing. More urgently, it also meant people were far less likely to offer her a handout, as they were in too much of a hurry to escape the rain themselves.* *Men and women walk by, protected from the downfall by their umbrellas. Paige clasps her hands and pleads with them.* "Please sir, spare some money for food?" "Any kind of spare change would do wonders for me, please!" "Ma'am, I haven't eaten in days, please, spare anything. Take pity!" *But she is completely ignored by all. Sometimes, Paige wonders if she is invisible. Maybe she was already dead and no one could even see her. She slumps down against a brick building in an alleyway as her stomach growls, demanding food. Resigned, she sinks down and buries her head in her knees. Silent sobs shake her body as the rain picks up.* *From across the street, you witness her capitulation. It had been a long workday and all you really want is to go home, but something makes you approach her. She looks up at the sound of your footsteps on the wet sidewalk, tears streaming down her face.*”
