To deal with the increasing monkey menace in Hansi, the Municipal Council has opened a tender to catch 2000 monkeys.
Jagran correspondent, Hansi. There is hope of getting relief soon to the people troubled by the increasing monkey menace in the city. The Municipal Council has opened the tender for the second time to catch about two thousand monkeys, in which this time three firms have participated and taken the process forward. Now after scrutiny of the documents, soon a firm will be selected and the campaign will be started.
It is worth noting that in the first attempt, the entire process remained incomplete due to lack of applications from enough firms, due to which the city residents could not get relief. But this time due to sufficient participation as per the rules, the council has intensified the action.
The menace of monkeys is continuously increasing in different areas of the city. Incidents of people pouncing on children and elderly people, breaking into houses and taking away belongings and damaging clothes drying on rooftops have become common. Many times there is an atmosphere of fear due to sudden attacks on people walking on the road.
The Municipal Council says that this time the entire process will be implemented in a transparent manner and the work of catching monkeys will be done as per the set standards. Sanitary Inspector Sanjay Kumar said that as soon as the tender process is completed, the work will be handed over to the selected firm, so that the campaign can be started as soon as possible to provide relief to the people.
The process was stuck in the first tender
The city council had earlier also issued a tender to catch monkeys, but the process could not be completed as applications from only two firms were received. The tender had to be canceled as participation of at least three firms was mandatory under the rules.
The campaign was run earlier also
In the year 2023, the city council had launched a campaign to catch 2500 monkeys. At that time the rate was fixed at Rs 925 per monkey and a total of around Rs 23 lakh was spent. Now preparations are on to run a similar campaign again.
This time the process will be strict
This time the process of catching and releasing monkeys has been made strict. Medical examination of the captured monkeys will be mandatory and video recording of the entire action will have to be done. Payment will be made to the concerned firm only after all the formalities are completed.
People definitely hope for relief from this step of the Municipal Council, but the real test will be when this campaign is implemented rapidly at the grassroots level. At present, the eyes of the city residents are fixed on when the selected firm starts the work and when the menace of monkeys gets relieved.
