Sandeep Ratan, Gurugram. The Municipal Corporation's debris disposal scheme is proving to be a failure in Cyber City. Due to limited capacity of the corporation's debris processing plant at Basai, a mountain of debris has accumulated at the site, increasing pollution and health hazards in the surrounding areas.
Local residents have accused the Municipal Corporation and the private agency of negligence and irregularities. The capacity of the plant is 1200 tonnes, but more than 1200 tonnes of debris is being released every day.
Nearly three lakh pieces of debris have been piled up on vacant land near the plant in Basai, which has increased pollution in the area. Let us tell you that in the agreement signed between the Municipal Corporation and a private agency in the year 2016, there was no clear provision for penalty for the poor performance of the agency. Due to this, questions are being raised on accountability.
For the last six years, tenders related to garbage collection and new processing units are also pending and the process is being started and canceled again and again. Although recently the Municipal Corporation has got the debris lifted from Sector 29 and Sector 10, but due to less disposal capacity, the debris is being piled up.
Problems increased due to dust and pollution
Dust is continuously rising from the debris lying in the open at the site, while adequate arrangements for dust control have not been made. Due to this, people living in nearby societies are facing respiratory problems and other health problems.
Municipal Corporation's XEN Sundar Sheoran says that a proposal to set up a new debris disposal plant with a capacity of 1200 tonnes per day has been sent to the headquarters, which is expected to solve the problem.
Scam of 2019 again in discussion
In this case, the scam of Rs 43 crore of the year 2019 is also in discussion again. Councilors had also raised this issue in the recent meeting of the Corporation House. At that time, irregularities were revealed in the payment of the debris lifting agency. The investigation was conducted by the Municipal Corporation and Urban Local Bodies Department, but till now no action has been taken against the agency and the concerned officials.
Pollution is spreading due to huge pile of debris in Basai area. The capacity of the debris disposal plant should be increased so that people do not face problems. If the agency is not working then fine should be imposed on it.-Balkishan, Basai resident
