Reuters, Paris. Foreign ministers of European countries have slammed their American counterparts for their leniency towards Russia. At a meeting of foreign ministers of the G7 countries in Vaux-de-Serne, France on Friday, European leaders told US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Russia is helping Iran in the war in West Asia.
With the help of Russia, Iran is planning to target American soldiers and bases. While Rubio reassured counterparts that the Iran war would be over in a matter of weeks. Rubio attended the last day of this two-day meeting.
Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also attended the meeting as a special invitee. European foreign ministers raised questions on the unpredictable foreign policy of the Trump administration. It was said that the Ukraine war was being affected by the lifting of the embargo on Russian oil sales.
There is a danger that the effect of the sanctions imposed on Russia for the last four years will end. Whereas Russia is helping Iran in the attack by giving satellite pictures of American bases.
Besides, Russia is also helping Iran in technologically upgrading drones. In the meeting, an appeal was made to stop attacks on civilians and public facilities in the war. British Foreign Minister Wattie Cooper expressed concern over relations between Russia and Iran.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadfull also said that Russia is giving information to Iran about specific targets. The dangers associated with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz were discussed in detail in the meeting.
It was said that due to closure of sea routes, there is a possibility of shortage of oil and gas and their becoming expensive. This may affect the pace of development of the entire world.
Russia refused to give information to Iran
Russia has denied allegations of sharing intelligence information and satellite images with Iran. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia has been supplying military equipment to Iran but is not providing any intelligence information at this time.
Jaishankar expressed concern about the countries of the Global South
In the meeting, Foreign Minister Jaishankar expressed concern over the difficulties faced by the countries of the Global South (other than developed countries) in energy, food grains and fuel due to the consequences of the ongoing war in West Asia.
He also expressed the need to create alternative trade routes in view of the conflict situation in West Asia. Jaishankar also held bilateral discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, Germany's Foreign Minister Johann Wadfull, Canada's Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha.
