Irregularities Found During Inspection Of Blinkit E-commerce Store, Now Case Will Be Filed In Haridwar

Food Safety Department found irregularities at Blinkit store in Haridwar. The inspection revealed sale of expired food items, violation of FIFOFEFO rules and misuse of FSSAI logo on non-edible items. The department destroyed flowers worth ₹3000 and will file a case against the store under the Food Safety and Standards Act. Flaws were also found in the online billing system.

Jagran correspondent, Haridwar. The Food Safety Department has taken the complaint of sale of expired food items seriously.

In compliance with the orders of District Food Safety Officer Mahimanand Joshi, Senior Food Safety Officer Dilip Jain inspected the BlinkIt e-commerce store located in Shivalik Nagar and carefully examined the labels of dairy, grocery, fruits and vegetables.

A case will soon be filed in the court against Blinkit e-commerce store under the sections of the Food Safety and Standards Act for destroying flowers worth three thousand rupees, as well as for not following the provisions of selling expired food items, first in first out, first expired first out and using stickers with FSSAI logo and name on non-edible items.

However, the first in first out, first expire first out provision was found not to be followed by the e-commerce store. No documents related to this were presented on the spot.

Assistant Store Manager told that on March 16, a newly recruited employee accidentally brought packed buttermilk from the dump area and sold it to the customer.

During enquiry, the Assistant Store Manager told that there is no facility in their online system for online billing of expired food items and billing of expired food items is done through UPC code.

The store was found to be using stickers bearing FSSAI logo and name on non-edible items such as packets of fresh flowers and selling them.

Due to which 12 packets of White Cherry Centemum (Chrysanthemum), eight packets of Marigold flowers, 10 packets of Yellow Cherry Centemum (Chrysanthemum) worth Rs 3,000 and 31 packets of packed Pooja mixed flowers i.e. a total of 61 packets were seized on the spot and destroyed.

By order of Food Safety and Standards Authority of New Delhi dated February 3, 2017, unauthorized use of FSSAI logo and name has been banned.
