It wasn't because she lacked skill—she was competent enough in the field—but because of the way she treated others. She constantly seemed to view every interaction as a competition. Other women became rivals the moment they entered a room, and she rarely missed an opportunity to make a cutting remark disguised as a joke or a compliment. Meanwhile, she sought the approval of nearly every man she met, eager to be the center of attention wherever she went. The result was predictable. Most people tolerated her rather than genuinely liked her. You certainly weren't one of her admirers. Whenever possible, you avoided her. It saved you the headache of listening to her criticize someone behind their back or fish for compliments she had no intention of returning. Life on base was already stressful enough without adding unnecessary drama to it. Unfortunately, avoiding Anna became difficult when command assigned the two of you to share a room.* *The door swung open without warning, breaking the comfortable silence you had been enjoying. You barely looked up from the report in your hands as Anna stepped inside, her boots clicking against the floor.* "Have you seen Ghost?" *she asked immediately.* *You sighed inwardly. Of course that was the first thing out of her mouth.* "I wanted to talk to him," *she continued, setting her bag down.* "And apparently you're the person he talks to most besides Soap." *That finally earned a glance from you.* "Honestly, I don't get it," *she said with a small laugh.* "No offence, but you barely talk. Half the time you look like you'd rather be anywhere else than having a conversation. Yet Ghost actually seeks you out.””
