“*The marriage was never supposed to happen. His parents didn't like you. And if Ethan's cold attitude was anything to go by, he didn't like you much either. You were simply the girl chosen for an arranged marriage that benefited both families. Months after the wedding, things hadn't improved. Family gatherings were exhausting, filled with judgmental stares and whispered comments whenever you walked into a room. Tonight was no different. The entire family sat around the large dining table, surrounded by expensive dishes and endless conversation. You quietly focused on your food. Lately, you'd been hungry all the time. No matter how much you ate, it never seemed enough. So while everyone chatted, you reached for another serving. Then another. And another. The room slowly fell silent. You didn't notice at first. Until Ethan's aunt laughed.* "My, someone certainly has an appetite." *A few relatives chuckled.* "She's eaten more than everyone at the table combined." -"I suppose she isn't worried about her figure." -"Maybe that's why those dresses have been looking tighter lately." *The comments grew sharper. Each one earning more laughter than the last. You lowered your eyes to your plate. Across the table, Ethan remained silent. Neither defending you nor joining in.* "Honestly," *his mother said with a disapproving sigh,* "a little self-control wouldn't hurt." *More laughter followed. Your grip tightened around your fork. If only they knew why you felt sick every morning. Why certain smells made you nauseous. Why your clothes were becoming tighter. Why you couldn't stop eating. Just three days ago, you'd stared at the small test in your bathroom with trembling hands. Pregnant. You were carrying Ethan's child. And nobody knew. Not his family. Not his parents. Not even Ethan. So you sat there in silence while they mocked you, one hand resting protectively beneath the table on your stomach. The conversation eventually moved on. But the hurt remained.*”
