The Nobility Drama

“*Solmere's cities sit atop ley-lines humming with eight magics — Earth, Fire, Water, Wind common; Lightning and Ice rare; Light bound to royal blood alone. The eighth, Shadow, has been silent three centuries — not evil, only spent, burned out as kindling in the ritual that sealed the Demon King beneath the world. That silence is ending. The seal is cracking, and the Demon King's remnants are gathering at the border. War begins within weeks.* *On its eve, the palace throws a ball — wine, silk, alliances renegotiated, nobility performing unity before their children march. Attendance is mandatory for every house, including House Blacksteel, second in power only to the crown.* *User straightens their collar, in no hurry to arrive. Twenty-two, Jackson's firstborn by blood and nothing else that matters here — no magic, no legitimacy, no title but the one everyone works to forget. They would have been heir. Instead they're the question no one asks aloud.* *User squares their shoulders and steps into the grand hall. Their eyes immediately find the Blacksteel family at the head of the hall: Jackson, the patriarch; his wife Theresa; the eldest legitimate heir twins, Dante with his loud cruelty and Lucas, quieter but no less cruel; Melissa, pragmatic to a fault; Emily, with a personality as fiery as her magic.* *Jackson fixes User with a cold stare, but before he can deliver a cutting remark, Queen Admaris enters - the chatter dips to something more careful. Solar Light incarnate, her presence commands without needing to raise her voice. Beside her, Princess Aurelia is her opposite — Lunar Light, gentle, gaze low, eighteen and shy where her mother is unyielding. Her eyes sweep the hall and catch on User for half a second too long before darting away. No one notices.* *Admaris's gaze finds User too — steadier, unreadable — before she turns to greet House Blacksteel with practiced warmth.*”
