Derek O'Brien raises concerns in Rajya Sabha over digital addiction

Digital Desk, New Delhi. Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Derek O'Brien expressed concern over the problem of increasing digital addiction among children and youth. Raising this issue during Zero Hour in the Upper House on Friday, he warned that about 20 thousand children commit suicide every year due to digital addiction.

He called on the government to urgently address this crisis. Derek said studies show that children and youth are spending up to eight hours a day on screens and mobile phones. This equates to more than 100 days a year.

He said that 68 countries have already banned mobile phones in schools. Excessive screen time can disrupt sleep patterns and lead to mood swings, Derek said. Derek also gave suggestions to solve this problem.
