Punjab Ready To Become A Trouble-shooter, Will Send Grains Across The Country; CM Said- There Is No Shortage Of Petrol And Diesel

Punjab has declared itself ready to supply food grains to the country. The Chief Minister informed that there was sufficient stock and sought lifting by special trains, while dismissing rumors of fuel shortage.

Rohit Kumar, Chandigarh. Amidst the global situation and its impact on the supply chain, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann gave a strong statement. He said that Punjab will once again emerge as a trouble-shooter and is ready to deliver the wheat and rice lying in the warehouses of the state to every corner of the country. For this, if necessary, the central government should run special trains.

The CM said that in the virtual meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also present, Punjab clearly said that the state has adequate grain reserves and it should be lifted immediately so that there is no hindrance in the procurement of the new crop.

He said that Punjab has a stock of about 171 lakh metric tonnes of wheat and 139 lakh metric tonnes of rice, which can be sent across the country under the Public Distribution System and Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. The CM stressed that rapid lifting through special trains is necessary, as the new crop will reach the markets in the coming days.

Rumors of shortage of petrol and diesel rejected

Rejecting the rumors spread regarding petrol and diesel, CM Mann said that there is no shortage of any kind in the state. At present, 12 days of petrol, 14 days of diesel and 6 days of LPG stock is available in Punjab, which is sufficient for normal needs. He appealed to the people not to panic and store fuel in their homes, it could be dangerous.

He also informed that a demand has been made to the Center to reduce the waiting period of LPG cylinders in villages. Besides, the point was also made not to impose any restrictions on industries and to keep the supply chain smooth.

CM said that Punjab is a border state, hence it should get resources on priority basis. Law and order is completely under control and there is no panic situation.

He also appealed to the media to fulfill its responsibility and said that unconfirmed news should be avoided. Also warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in black marketing and hoarding.
