Jagran correspondent, Almora. The Health Department has started an important and innovative initiative with the aim of reducing maternal and child mortality rate in Almora district. Now, heli service will be provided to high-risk pregnant women living in remote areas at the time of delivery, so that they can get high level medical care on time and the safety of both mother and child is ensured.
This facility, started for the first time in the district, is being considered a big step towards the expansion of health services. According to departmental data, in the past years the maternal mortality rate has been recorded at 68 per one lakh women and the infant mortality rate has been recorded at about five percent per thousand. Most of these cases came from areas where health facilities are limited and timely treatment is not available.
Keeping this challenge in mind, heli service has been started. Under the scheme, if needed, high-risk pregnant women will be airlifted from the nearest helipad to a higher centre. This will make quick treatment possible in case of emergency.
For the smooth operation of this system, the Health Department has deployed nodal and co-nodal officers, who will monitor the entire process. The department hopes that this initiative will significantly reduce maternal and child mortality and improve access to health services in rural areas.
The main objective is to reduce maternal infant mortality rate. Nodal officers have been appointed for this. Places where there is a helipad nearby. This facility will be available at those places. - Dr. Praveen Kumar, CMO, Almora
